the history and workings of the U.S. Supreme Court (blog Post #2)

One aspect I hadn’t considered was the Court's evolution in terms of structure and power. The Court’s authority as the final say in interpreting the Constitution wasn't necessarily granted by the Constitution. it was instead established through early landmark cases. This helped seal the principle of judicial review. The video emphasized the Supreme Court’s role as a check on both the legislative and executive branches of the government. They helped maintain balance. This is like a system of checks and balances.

I was surprised to learn about the process involved in selecting cases. The Supreme Court only hears 1-2% of cases that are appealed to it. Each year, Judges review thousands of petitions, granting a hearing to only those cases that hold significant legal implications

The video helped me clarify just how much influence the Supreme Court really has. It goes way beyond just “deciding cases.” The supreme court’s rulings can reshape society, and by interpreting the Constitution in these changing times, it adapts the law to newer age issues.

In summary, the U.S. The Supreme Court’s role is far more impactful than it may seem as a normal citizen, it acts as a legal and social stabilizer that both interprets and, at times, redefines fundamental rights within the Constitution.

Key post (blog post 3)

Of the 8 values of freedom, the one that resonates with me the most is promoting innovation. promoting innovation is all about free speech and how the ability of free speech allows American citizens to stay creative with just about everything. Promoting innovation in my opinion is the most important value of expression. without the value of promoting innovation, who knows where we would be today, still riding horses?, still using lanterns? With the promotion of innovation we as Americans were able to invent new and better things. This all stems from having the ability of free speech, or rather a free mind. Out of the eight values of freedom, the one that feels most personal to me is once again, the promotion of innovation. This is because it resonates with me on a deeper level. Back home I work for a retail company that sells everything from canoes to hiking shoes. It's like a better REI. While working here my bosses are very open to the idea of free speech. They want you to speak your mind, tell them how you feel, and if you have ideas for the business they want to hear it. Naturally, I am a very curious and creative person. Almost every day I had questions or ideas about the store. Since my bosses were super open to all of my feelings and ideas they did not go unnoticed and got implemented into the everyday work force. Without the promotion of innovation I would not have been able to talk to my bosses in this way and help improve the business. This also happens everywhere in the US, it's not just specific to me. People have ideas all the time and need a way to share them. they go to their boss, friends, family, or even social media to share these ideas. Without the innovation of Facebook we would not have nearly, if any of the social media platforms we have today. With Zuck’s innovation of social media, it sparked others to have similar ideas and create new social media platforms that rival the original. Without the promotion of innovation, we would be nowhere today.

My Top Sources for Media and Information (blog post 1)

Tik Tok: there are many people/users who get news information from all sides of the political divide and compile them into an un biased report video. this is very useful.

Instagram: instagram is a good source if you are following the right pages not just the ones that pertain to your political party.

Facebook: I am actually on FB a lot and use it frequently. it is entertaining to see all the characters on there and the news is good if you can sort out the wahoos.

X: I do not personally use X/Twitter much so I cannot attest to its news credibility.

Rap (instagram): a phenomenal source of news, not quite clear until you read the full article past the post but it always grabs my attention and its very up to date with all topics.
